[Previous entry: "11/24 Morning"] Home 11/27/2001 Entry: "11/27 Party" The party was a success. Shawn was very surprised and had a great time, as did everyone. We had 41 people attend so that was a nice crowd. I was not feeling 100% but still had a good time. Shawn is so outgoing and such a comedian so of course he stood up and told jokes for an hour or so and had everyone just rolling. I have no idea where he comes up with this stuff! Poor Shawn didn't get to bed til 4:00 a.m. and had to get up at 5:00 a.m. for work. I tried to convince him to call in sick (he can do that without getting in trouble) but he assured me it was no problem. I'm sure the drinks he had altered his ability to judge as he was dying all day at work LOL. Then last night we had some friends come to the bowling alley as yesterday is the day he actually turned 30. We had another good time. We played cards until 1:30 a.m. I stayed sober for both his parties as I knew I'd be driving. Shawn is now an old man ha-ha. I'm finishing up laundry today, doing odds and ends, and starting to pack as we leave tomorrow afternoon. I'm so glad we have a minivan with plenty of room so I'm going to pack more than I need just in case. I also have to get my crown in this afternoon. I was told this would not hurt so I sure hope so. I'd really hate to go on vacation with a toothache. I am thinking of going back to school to be a Computer Programmer. I'm about 99% sure. I am filling out the application and have already applied for financial loans/grants. I can't say I've always wanted to be a programmer, but the money does look great, and I really want to get into something where I'll have plenty of job opportunities. I am meeting with a counselor when I get back from vacation to discuss my options. I am attending an area technical college for my associate degree. All of the courses are offerred online, but I will take as many as I can at the school so I can get out of the house and get hands on experience. I really never had a burning desire for a career. Then again, I don't have a burning desire for anything. But I see how Shawn and I are struggling financially, and I can't help but think I should do something to help out. My business never did take off as I chickened out because I had decided it would not go over well for what I had in mind. I am selling some designs in Mom's store but I can't make a living off that. I also do not want to work part-time for her store forever. I have already told Shawn that I do not want to work full-time when we have kids. So I'm really feeling a time crunch as I'm 31. If I get my degree now and go to work that doesn't leave any time for me to have a child as I do not want to be older than 35. Plus I wouldn't want to start a new job with a company and then turn around and either quit or take maternity leave. I really want to stay home with the baby for the first few years as I do not want to miss out on everything the way I did back when I had Jesse. So we have decided that I will pursue my degree slowly over the next few years. Meanwhile we will get married and have a child, maybe two. I should have my degree by the time our child is 3 so I feel safe going to work then. But I won't plan anything too far ahead as I know God has His own plan for me. I am worried that I could even hate computer programming so I will take my general courses first along with one programming class just to see. That way if I really hate it, I can switch to a different major. Well I doubt I'll update this again before my vacation. I will for sure be home again December 10.
Replies: 2 people are chatting about this very important subject. Sounds like you had a great birthday celebration with Shawn! I think you've got a good idea of what you want to do. I think it makes sense too, as it can be really hard to get back into the work force after you've been home a few years raising kids, if you don't have a degree! Have a wonderful vacation! Bev has spoken @ 11/27/2001 12:42 PM CST First of all, I'm really happy your party was a success. I've never been good at throwing parties myself, and I am always amazed at people who make it look so easy. Secondly, I think you should follow your heart. One thing I've learned in the years I've been working is that if you don't find a job that makes you happy you won't be any good at it. If you think programming will do it for you, then go for it, but if you are having doubts then give it a little more time before making your decision. Unless things have changed since I went to college, you'll have to start with your basic ed classes anyways, so that should give you more time before being forced to make any kind of a final decision. 'Course, you're probably more certain than you sound, and I'm probably wrong for assuming you still have a few nagging doubts on this one. Personally, I see you as an artist, and think you should continue to develop your skills in that area, but these days there isn't much money for the all the starving artists we already have, is there? Anyways, I've rambled long enough, lol... Have a great vacation, you deserve it! Lee has spoken @ 11/27/2001 10:51 PM CST
