11/07/2001 Entry: "11/07 Root Canal"

I just got home from having a root canal. I was at the dentist at 7:30 a.m. and the procedure took just over 2 hours. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be though my mouth is still frozen so not sure if I'll have pain or how much. I was told they had to shave some of my gum away so that may hurt. I didn't feel the actual root canal itself which is a huge relief though my jaw was killing me from being open for so long. I've had so many problems with my jaw ever since I had my tonsils out (1993) and they dislocated my jaw. Then I injured it in the tornado so it's been one thing after another. I know I have a mild case of TMJ and need to get that taken care of one of these days too. Anyway, the root canal is over, and I'm relieved. I didn't even feel the shots, which is a huge miracle. I am so impressed with my dentist. He carefully explained everything and was very gentle.

P.S. It's hilarious to see myself in the mirror when I smile. I had been yacking on the phone and decided to check my face in the mirror and when I smile only half of my mouth actually smiles and the other hangs down......it reminds me of Elvis! ROFL

LOL; I remember doing that when I had dental work done. Boy do I feel your financial pain girl! I had to have that $1500 root canal and crown too. I was in severe debt at the time too. It took me 2 yrs to pay that sucker off!

I had to have a root canal on my front tooth with no anesthetic when I was 8 months pregnant with Sarah.

I'm glad your root canal went alright, Leah. I've had four done now. Three were fine, with the last one they had to pack the canals for 48 hours to kill an infection and it turned out I was allergic to whatever they used. Needless to say I was in agony before the dentist figured out what the problem was. I don't know how Bev did it without anesthetic (I know us Canadians are hardy stock and all that, but NO PAIN KILLER? I AM IMPRESSED)!
